Stop Phone Scams Before They Start
Why This Matters
Phone scams continue to rise across the country. At City of Firsts Community Federal Credit Union, we work hard to protect our members. That protection goes beyond the branch. It includes helping you stay safe at home, online, and on every call you receive.
Many members have reported getting calls from fake “tech support” teams or companies they do not use. These callers often claim your computer or account has a problem. Their goal is to scare you into acting fast.
These calls are not real. Knowing the warning signs can help you stay safe.
1. Do Not Trust Unsolicited Tech Support Calls
If someone calls you without warning and says your computer or account has an issue, hang up. Real companies do not call you first. They wait for you to contact them.
2. Never Allow Remote Access
Scammers often ask to “fix” your device by taking control of it. If you allow this, they can see your files, passwords, and financial information. Do not allow remote access, even if the caller sounds confident.
3. Do Not Send Money Without Checking First
Scammers often pressure people to send money right away. They may ask for a wire transfer, prepaid card, or digital payment. If the request feels urgent or unusual, stop. Talk to someone you trust or call us at (765) 459-0758 before sending any money.
4. Be Careful With Phone Numbers in Messages
Do not trust numbers sent to you through email, text, or social media. If you need to speak with a company, visit their official website to find the real phone number.
5. Act Fast if You Think You Were Scammed
If you think a scammer gained access to your device or accounts, take action:
Visit a trusted computer repair service to check for malware.
Call us right away so we can protect your accounts. (765) 459-0758
Change passwords on any accounts that may be at risk.
Taking quick steps can limit the damage and keep your information safe.
Stay Alert and Stay Safe
Scammers want you to panic and act without thinking. Slow down. Ask questions. Talk to someone you trust. When in doubt, contact City of Firsts Community Federal Credit Union before responding.
