Banking System Service Alleviated
What Happened
At approximately noon Tuesday, 9/15, City of Firsts Community Federal Credit Union (COFFCU) outage after a significant equipment failure at our banking system provider’s main data center. This is a large system outage affecting many other credit unions that use the same banking system, not just COFFCU. On Thursday, 9/17, Sharetec shared the attached Service Disruption Statement. Please be assured that this outage is not due to a data breach. Your banking information has not been compromised. This outage is due to an equipment cooling failure that brought down essential equipment that got too hot. A comprehensive report of the incident has been promised to us including why the redundant cooling system did not activate.
9/21/2026- 9:33 am - Update
COFFCU branch staff have access to the Sharetec system, and we are no longer processing transactions offline.
ATM/Debit cards are no longer functioning in offline mode. We cannot guarantee that all account balances and transaction histories are accurate until all ATM/Debit card transactions have been fully posted and validated.
Online banking, mobile app, and the automated phone system (ART) are available now.
We are reconciling all financial reports and manually correcting any discrepancies as we find them. Currently, we do not have a completion date when this will be all resolved. We are waiving transaction fees incurred during the timeframe of the outage from September 12th to October 31, 2026.
We recognize that this disruption has affected you in very real ways. We know you needed access to your money, confirmation that payment(s) was received, or simply the peace of mind of knowing that your account balance is correct. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience, uncertainty, and frustration this situation has caused these last several days.
