At a time when other financial markets are in turmoil and many of the nation's largest financial institutions are struggling to survive, the mission of City of Firsts Community FCU is simply to serve the individual needs of our members.  City of Firsts did not participate in the sub-prime mortgage market nor have we purchased securities backed by those mortgages.  As a result, we are continuing our normal lending practices.  By carefully managing our investments and liquidity, we are fully prepared for the challenges facing all of us.  We remain committed to our mission of serving your financial needs.  

Effective October 3, 2008, President George W. Bush signed into law the "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008". The new law amends the insurance coverage provided by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and the deposit insurance provided by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).  The law provides for an increase in the minimum coverage from $100,000 to $250,000 on member share accounts.  This includes all account types, such as regular share, share draft, money market, and certificates of deposit.  Individual Retirement Account (IRA) coverage remains at up to $250,000 separate from other types of accounts owned.  The increase in coverage is effective October 3, 2008, through December 31, 2009.  Not one penny of insured savings has ever been lost in shares insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. Government agency.
